French volunteer donors Registry

182de53337208a1eb48310418afefe2e

France Greffe de Moelle Registry was created in 1985. The characteristics of French volunteer donors registered by the donor centres are centralized through the Registry’s safe data-processing network. counts nowadays more than 150 000 donors.

When a bone marrow transplantation is considered, the physician will first search for a compatible donor, within the patient’ siblings. If there is no such donor available, the physician will contact international unrelated bone marrow donors Registries, through the National Registry France Greffe de Moelle. The donor search is immediately spread out to 56 countries, which is to say 10 million donors.

The quality of the communication systems of these Registries allows an eventual compatible donor to be identified within 24 hours. France Greffe de Moelle Registry, is the active interface between physicians, donor centres and international Registries, and is in charge of the donor validation, the coordination and the organization of bone marrow collections. It guarantees anonymity between donor and patient.
